How they faced success and challenges in their own business, what advise and direction they offer up to more women keen to start their own business or expand their current business and where they see themselves as their businesses evolve. We are based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Learning Curve Podcast - THE Podcast for Women Entrepreneurs in the Middle East.

Sahiqa is the Founder of Searchie and Searchie, a head hunter who is passionate about helping clients find a new solution to their stressful recruitment process.  She started her company back in 2014 and can be found across the globe.

What I loved most about Sahiqa was her adaptive leadership style, her being one with the goal and connecting with it to make it happen. It takes strong mindfulness and out of the box thinking to lead a team with that thinking. She very clear about her passion, her identity and who she can help.  With these grounded ideals it make the rest of her work easier. Her clients will get her and people will want to work with her.  People like to work with people who know exactly what the mission. I believe Sahiqa has done that.

By the time the interview was over, I wanted to work for Sahiqa. She has created a working environment where all her team members (who are mums, by the way) can thrive, engage and create the best people they can be. As a mum, myself I know it can be difficult to balance work and family but this team seem to be a great example of how it is possible.

A corporate lawyer by profession Julie shares a great overview of her business and how she is passionate about helping people make the right life decisions for their families and their kids education.  Making life changing decisions takes courage, knowledge and patience and somoone like Julie helps makes this decision making so much easier.

Through our conversation you will learn more about Julie and her style to helping people makes these big life choices.  She's empowered by her legal background, her Canadian connections with educational institutes and canadian immigration processes and gives you the information you need to make informed decisions.

She prides herself on her lawyer roots and is keen to always be a perfectionist in this area however she understand the learning curve of starting her own business and she's consistently learning, growing and powering through the new aspects to business growth she is facing.  

It was a real delight to speak with Julie and learn more about her and her journey.  She loves what she does and I personally feel that passion and drive to serve her clients well will see her become a key thought leader on the subject of Canadian Immigration.

Carrie shares a really great overview of her business and how as she has grown, she’s become more and more clear about her purpose and her direction. Clarity and direction can sometimes really overwhelm any great business idea and so the person can be left feeling deflated or misdirected. Great ideas don’t take off because you don’t know how to level up your business idea.  Through our conversation you will hear about how Carrie identified the pain factors she solves through her business and how she spends her time serving, learning and listening to help her clients and her community unleash their inner artist  and embrace their creative interests.

To nurture, elevate and community are three words that describe what Carrie is doing.  Having these characteristics aswell as an attitude to serve first has ensured she’s been able to create better products to suit her customers and connect with them better on a personal as well as professional level.  Her business is called ‘Artist Strong’ and even that brand came from her community! 

Carrie has worked hard to create trust and authenticity in her community and she’s done this with creating strong connections with her audience. This is primary to any developing business and particularly for Carrie as it helps her build, grow and stretch her business into the platform.


I loved how Carrie articulated her story and helping us understand where she is on her entrepreneurial journey and her learning curve story. She’s a tuned in chick!

Have you ever thought about the correlation between a weight loss journey and entrepreneurship?  I've recently connected the two.  If you spotted the correlation yourself, then awesome and I'd love to hear how you see them syncing up.   So summer 2016 for me is about 2 key objectives, a) starting my business, and b) weight loss and getting my fitness back.  To achieve both I've been spending the first part of the early morning on the treadmill where for one hour I walk and run to achieve around 9000 steps. My aim is to average around 12000 daily steps.  This morning effort really boosts that number to achieve my daily step count. It also helps with the 2nd objective of starting my business by helping me get clear, having a healthy mindset and achieve my daily 'to do' list about what I need to get done.  Apart from this morning exercise boost, the majority of my day is very sedentary. I spend a chunk of time in front of the computer or in meetings, a car or just relaxing. Its pretty hot outside so going out really isn't advisable so getting my exercise done first thing is crucial. I'm not a afternoon gym person nor an evening person so the mornings gets it done. Read More
